Ibiza (or Eivissa)

Ibiza (or Eivissa) represents two things to most people- a Summer party place for the electronic dance music set or a beautiful island that is vastly underrated as a tourism destination. Many people know Ibiza for the wild nightlife and the lovely electronica and electronic dance music that bumps from the clubs. Ibiza is about 79 kilometers (or about 48.089 miles) south of the lovely Spanish city of Valencia. In "Test Drive Unlimited 2," you will have the chance to drive on the roads of Ibiza. And yes, there is a car from SEAT called the Ibiza. So this Balearic Island is either a party destination, a beautiful island that most people don't realize is there away from the nightlife, or both. If you've read some of my past blog posts, Ibiza is the birthplace of one of my Fictional Characters, Marisol Castillo. The nightlife aspect of Ibiza is a big part of me coming up with this character. This blog post will try to be my contribution to Ibiza as a party destination and as an island paradise.

Ibiza is a small island that is big in the realm of nightlife. I somewhat apologize for making this parallel, but Ibiza to fans and performers of electronica and electronic dance music is like Woodstock to rock fans. There are not very many places in the world that match or exceed the character and charm Ibiza provides. How can a lovely island also be such a happening party place?

What Defines Ibiza and Its Music?

I think Ibiza is defined by tropical-style, Latin-style music. It is music that is nicely defined more by mellow Summer tunes rather than any hard-hitting progressive trance songs. There are even Ibiza chill sessions devoted to great chill and downtempo music. Since Ibiza is best known as a Summer party place with a very vast and beachy lifestyle, I think the music which defines Ibiza has to fit this mold properly to be true to Ibiza. That even includes any chill-style Ibiza songs. If you check out the videos in this blog post regarding Ibiza's music, you'll get somewhat a good indication as to the style of music that defines Ibiza in the realm of electronica and electronic dance music.

--- Ibiza: Club Scene ---

The biggest industry in Ibiza is the tourism industry as well as the Summer party scene. Ibiza is a small island that is big in parties. It is almost seen as a holy land for fans of electronica and electronic dance music. Between about May through September (or between June through October), is the Summer season of clubbing in Ibiza. Most of these clubs are closed when it's cold weather times. They usually don't open up again until Spring the following year. This is where the popular Ibiza clubs have their usual circuit of hot parties with world-class DJs and artists supplying hot music to the masses in attendance. Among the many different clubs, there are at least four that are the most popular- Space, Pacha, Amnesia, and Privilege. One thing that is famous at Ibiza clubs are the foam parties, where foam is shot out of these cannons and soaking the crowd in foam. There are also various dancing acts and vastly creative dancers making the Ibiza experience even more over-the-top.

It is safe to say that Ibiza provides perhaps THE biggest club experience in the world. In fact, you can call Ibiza as clubbing paradise. You must be at least 18 years old to enjoy the clubbing experience in Ibiza. It is said that August is the most stressing time to try to party in Ibiza since the queues are so long. Space Ibiza.

Space Ibiza is an outdoor terrace club best known for their "We Love Sundays" sessions that last between 4:30 PM Sunday and go all the way into 6:00 AM Monday. Do the math- that's about 13.5 hours of partying! The Summer season of music here lasts for 16 weeks. The action runs between late May through early or middle September. When it's not the Summer season of music, the club is pretty much closed until at least next Spring. So if you want to enjoy Space Ibiza, better enjoy it while during the Summer season!

Pacha Ibiza.

The Pacha club franchise is international, and one of the biggest of the franchise is Pacha Ibiza. In fact, the Pacha Group is headquartered in Ibiza. The Pacha logo is two cherries attached to each other. There are over 20 different Pacha clubs internationally, seven of which in Spain. Pacha Ibiza is the largest and most popular of the Pacha clubs. Of the Pacha clubs, only one is in the United States- Pacha New York.

Amnesia Ibiza.

Having Amnesia can a good thing, especially if you call Amnesia Ibiza your sanctuary. The World's Best Global Club celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2010. I don't know as much about Amnesia Ibiza as I would like to. However, you will get a mostly general idea of Amnesia if you visit the website to this heading. You can enjoy streaming electronic dance music from Amnesia if you visit the site above. Check for listening times.

Privilege Ibiza.

Not to be outdone on the Ibiza club circuit is Privilege. It began life as a restaurant called Ku in the 1970s. This is the world's largest nightclub according to the Guinness Book of World Records. Imagine a nightclub that can pack over 10,000 people! You have to imagine all 10K of them are wanting to hear some great music. It used to be home to the Manumission event, which has since moved to Amnesia after some disputes between the Manumission organizers and the Privilege owner.

While many know Ibiza for its club life, many others don't know of its personality away from the club scene. I will provide only limited insight of Ibiza when the name of the game isn't partying or clubbing. Do NOT look for this section to be a complete and thorough guide on Ibiza. This is merely just a digest of information online.

Family-Friendly Ibiza.

It must be tough trying to push for a family-friendly Ibiza when the biggest industry in Ibiza is the Summer club scene. Ibiza, however, can be a family-friendly place away from the club scene. There are many places to visit and stay at for family-friendly (and even pet-friendly) fun. The best site I can recommend to where you can find all about Ibiza's family-friendly atmosphere is by visiting Family Holidays in Ibiza on Ibiza Spotlight.

Gastronomy of Ibiza.

Various Balearic dishes compliment the range of foods and drinks of Ibiza. Seafood makes up the vast majority of Balearic foods in Ibiza, and wine (along with more traditional liquor) is the most prevalent beverage in Ibiza. A popular Ibiza dish is that of fish with rice. Some of the different dishes include burrida de ratjada and bullit. If you don't particularly fancy Balearic cuisine, there are always British and German foods for you to enjoy in Ibiza.

With this insight in mind, you now know that Ibiza is more than just a party destination. I've read that Ibiza's waters are among the cleanest among Mediterranean Islands. So these beaches and waters are about as clean as most South Pacific island nations that I've highlighted on in past blog posts regarding the South Pacific. Why do more people know it better for a party atmosphere rather than as a tourist destination? Well, if you liken this as a balancing scale, then the heavier weights would be on the side of Ibiza as a party place rather than as a tourist destination. Even in my blog post regarding what I love about Spain, I considered Ibiza to be an absolutely lovely place. Ibiza (especially Ibiza Town) is very lovely with its Old World beauty. Enjoy Ibiza for the partying, but never second guess Ibiza's beauty away from the partying scene.

By playing "Test Drive Unlimited 2" on my PlayStation 3, I have enhanced appreciation for the beauty of Ibiza. The country drive as well as the more modern parts of Ibiza (including Ibiza Town) are all lovely locales. Test Drive Unlimited 2 even features the Privilege and Pacha clubs. Too bad you can't go to them, though. :(

Jeffrey Campbell "Lita" Boots

Many blogging fashionistas have what has been the trendiest lace-up this cold weather season- the Jeffrey Campbell "Lita" boots. These vastly popular platform boots have been worn by many fashion bloggers and other fashionable types. The "Lita" boots feature a platform sole and a chunky high heel. The shoes either come in any variety of materials and with either a wooden heel or a synthetic heel. The material types are very vast. What's your favorite style of Jeffrey Campbell "Lita" boots- leather, suede, glitter, fabric, or even shag? Initially, I set up this blog post to discuss lace-up boots. However, I decided to focus my blog solely (no pun intended) on the Jeffrey Campbell "Lita" boots.

--- Thoughts on the Jeffrey Campbell "Lita" Boots ---

So who is Lita? No, we're not talking about former WWE Diva Amy Dumas (who went by the ring name "Lita"). Lita from Jeffrey Campbell is a girl who loves to stand tall and trample on anyone (or anything) that stands in her way. There is nothing little about Lita. She's a girl who balances (but never compromises) style and toughness. The fact these are lace-up boots shows this is one girl who shows you can be stylish and tough without compromise. Lita isn't any kind of meanie- she'll only fight back when provoked.

Most of you may know that I am not really into lace-up boots. Just on the silhouette alone from the sides, though, the Lita boots are tough to beat for their style. I would say these are a happy medium between a sexy pair of high-heel booties and combat boots. The combination equates to a pair that has been understandably been adored by many fashionable types. These are more like pumps for the tough girl. That's why many fashion bloggers love the "Lita" boots- these are a tough pair of shoes that still have a modicum of chic to them. So these booties aren't overly tough to where they are borderline punk or Goth. These are not combat boots. I guess in the minds of those who want something different, at least wearing these is different from wearing a chic pair of booties, sandals, or pumps.

Many fashion lovers, however, are overly bored and tired of the "Lita" booties because it seems like every fashionable girl (used loosely) and almost every blogger wears these boots. Some people get the impression that the "Lita" boots are all played out and annoying. Whether or not these look good to you depends on how you wear them and what you wear them with. Because of their popularity and high price, many different designers have made their own knockoffs of the "Lita" booties. So fashionistas can enjoy the "Lita" booties' style without having to pay "Lita" prices. By all means- get the authentic Jeffrey Campbell "Litas" if they fancy you. But if you don't have the money, there isn't much shame getting knockoff "Lita" booties.

(ADDED: April 7 2012) These days, I am kind of liking pairing the Jeffrey Campbell "Lita" booties with certain dresses. Maxi dresses and maxi skirts with the Lita booties make a nice combination. Certain short dresses offer an unexpected touch of chic when "Lita" boots are worn as opposed to say, some platform pumps or some platform sandals.

Someone considered the "Lita" booties as beautiful; I don't necessarily think so. The silhouette of the "Lita" booties is not as sexy or as attractive as a hot pair of boots or sandals.

Jeffrey Campbell "Lita" Boots: Why the "Lita" Namesake?

From the blog on Jeffrey Campbell's website, there is a reason why these booties are called "Lita." These boots were named "Lita" from Lita Ford of '70s girl band, The Runaways. It is the '70s appeal that has helped these boots to be as popular as they are among fashionistas and fashion bloggers. You might have seen this version of the "Lita" boots. These are a shaggy pair of "Lita" boots. A tweet I read from Curvy Girl Chic's Twitter feed called these shoes as "the Cousin It" shoes. Personally, I'm confused as to why animal rights activists aren't crying "cruelty to animals" to these shaggy Lita boots, because they look like a poor animal with a wooden stake driven up its backside. Surely shoes I would stay away from if I were a female.

Lita Inspiration: My Capacious Bottega.

Mulika (or "Milly") of "My Capacious Bottega" was one of the first to sort of introduce me to the Jeffrey Campbell "Lita" shoes. I came across this blogger when I was around the Fashion Spot's forums. Milly tells me of how comfortable they are to wear and walk in. Here is a sample of one of her looks paired with the Lita boots: "Non-Cursory" on My Capacious Bottega. Lita Inspiration: tiny sailor.

As unusual as it sounds, the young blogger "tiny sailor" made it work. Here's the story. The Arkansas girl named Niki found this lovely vintage prom dress from the '70s. It was a pink floor-length dress that she shortened to just below mid-thigh length. Niki paired this dress with black tights and... a pair of Jeffrey Campbell Lita booties. So two things accomplished- give new life to an old dress while also wearing a wildly popular pair of lace-up booties. And surprisingly- this combination of the shortened prom dress and these Lita boots is incredibly chic! See for yourself: "seventies prom dress." on tiny sailor. I still prefer pumps or sandals for any formal-type dress, but this unusual combination of a prom dress (with tights) and lace-up booties is surprisingly chic. Niki just did this in such a way that even I appreciate this look.

In what appears to look as a two-piece shorts suit, Niki of "tiny sailor" wears a cute vintage romper. While the romper is from the '70s, this '70s romper is modernized with a pair of "Lita" boots from Jeffrey Campbell. Vintage meets modern in "vintage seventies romper." on tiny sailor.

Lita Inspiration: my bliss is this way.

The creative titles of "my bliss is this way" are met with some stylish looks in pictures. This blog post is the most recent one from "my bliss is this way" where I want to showcase Litas being worn under a pair of flared jeans. You have to admit it's pretty hot hiding a hot pair of lace-up booties under flared pants or under a long skirt or a long dress. Have a look: "Why did I agree to cook ? I must have been sober. Speak Now

This is not the first blog post of mine related to or inspired by Taylor Swift. I bought "Speak Now" from a WalMart store yesterday. Many have questioned Taylor Swift calling people out the way she did in these songs. For example, "Dear John" is (thankfully) not about me, but John Mayer. My reaction to this CD was pretty interesting. The most unusual thing about this blog post is that I am a guy- so my reaction to something like this will be quite a ways different from how most females would perceive this album. Perhaps I need to do more music CD reviews, but I will blog about this CD with my own commentary. What do I think of this CD from the country cutie from Wyomissing, Pennsylvania? Read on!

Before I tell you about my thoughts on this CD, let me read a little excerpt from the CD cover:

"What you will say might be too much for some people. Maybe it will come out all wrong and you'll stutter and you'll walk away embarrassed, wincing as you play it all back in your head. But I think the words you stop yourself from saying are the ones that will haunt you the longest."

Having said this, this CD is the most hard-hitting album ever from Taylor Swift. It is hard hitting both with the music and with most of the passion in these songs. One thing you have to appreciate about Taylor is how she isn't passive in expressing herself. Perhaps another thing- she expresses herself without the need for any raunchy language or suggestive themes. I think you need to read the CD jacket inside to understand the meaning of Speak Now and what the album is all about. Taylor delivers some powerful material in her songs. She lives up to the "Speak Now" aspect with a fearless, impervious, and unapologetic manner.

Calling Out Boys in Songs: Fair or Foul?

I've read magazines asking if it's fair or foul for Taylor Swift to call guys out like she does in songs. Some say it's fair while others would cry foul. I think this is part of Taylor's personality in songs. I think Taylor Swift is one of the most well-natured people anywhere in the world. She is sensational in singing and in entertainment. However, when armed with a guitar and performing her music, she is one of the most expressive and most entertaining personalities in music. "Speak Now" encapsulates this completely. If you are a Taylor Swift fan, this CD is much different from what she brought to her debut CD and in "Fearless."

On a different end, Taylor Swift's songs about boys is something different from most of the suggestive, raunchy, violent, tasteless tones some other artists express in songs. Some have complained that this is all Taylor sings about. However, most would rather hear songs about something different than what most other popular artists and groups sing and make songs about. So it goes both ways in my view.

Remember what I typed earlier- I'm talking about this CD from a male perspective. I'd hate to have a diss-worthy song about me being made, but I'd be just as upset as most guys would be if I did some girl wrong (or at least have no idea I've done her wrong). I'd just hate to have a song about me or with elements involving past relationships. There are two ways to think about this- (1) do your girl right 24/7 and all year! (2) Unless your girlfriend is just tough to please, just make the most of your relationship as best as you can. Or maybe... a relationship just will never work or wasn't meant to work. This is more of Taylor Swift's way of revenge while also giving some insight to other girls who may or may not be faced with such situations in love.

Whether or not you see calling out boys in songs as fair or foul depends on what you think overall. I, for one, think there are two sides to every story and every conflict. Taylor will call hers in her songs. So if I had to choose fair or foul to be called out in a song... fair (as long as it's not me that's the subject of the song).
