Car Style - The Lotus Evora

The Lotus Evora evokes a sports car with plenty of style. She is a princess who rules like a queen. It is what I would consider beautiful- not seriously hard or full of character, but it is an automobile with lovely lines and great style. The Evora is a Lotus that demands your undivided attention. I could connect with the Evora's style and charm, unlike my attempts to connect with the Esprit. Graceful and luscious style makes this car one of the hottest automobiles set for the road. You probably can't afford it unless you won the Lotto. I was fortunate enough to see this automobile at the 2010 Houston Auto Show. A picture is below. Below this picture will be yet another entry in my "Car Style" series of blog entries.

--- Car Style: The Lotus Evora ---

Exterior.
The overall style cues up front remind me of the Ferrari 575, only without the single front air scoop. The headlight arrangement is minimal while packing great style. The front bumper's opening has kind of the same smile look to it like on Mazdas, only that this opening a bit lovelier than most recent Mazdas. Two long openings on the sides of the front bumper accompany the big opening up front. The front bonnet has two vents close to the windshield for some mean style.

Its swoopy character extends from its side profile. A nice set of wheels accompanies this lovely car along with a combination of dramatic fenders and edgy lines. Its side style suggests that this car wants to run through the wind like a child at recess. The Evora has wings, and it wants to fly on the road even as winds howl. Some of the sculpted lines around the bottoms of the doors add an aggressive touch. The roof of the car has a nice aerodynamic profile while it seems to suggest this car provides decent comfort for your head.

From the rear, the Lotus Evora's overall graceful style extends to the rear. A circular taillight accentuates either side of the car's rear profile. "LOTUS" is in bold letters between two hazard lights. There is somewhat a rear valence that consists of a muffler with two exhaust tips. You COULD mount a spare tire in the trunk/boot, but also remember that this car is mid-engined. So looking at the rear will let you know that the 276 horsepower heart of the car is in between the seats and the actual trunk/boot.

Interior.
The Lotus Evora is in no way a car that could dominate anything before it. Its interior design, then, doesn't suggest a car that can blow the doors off any high-dollar sports car. The steering wheel is very racy along with the shifter arrangement. A lovely collection of gauges and lights occupy the instrument panel along with some extra buttons on the sides. The center console is minimal, but it does offer something of a navigation system. The seats of this coupe are very racy. These seats suggest this to be a race car for the road. In fact, these two seats are made by Recaro. The car comes in a nice variety of colors. The one I've seen from Lotus USA's official website is a combination of black and almond. It is a lovely combination for a car as lovely as this.

I think the Lotus Evora is a beautiful automobile. It has graceful lines and sweet charm with an acceptable dosage of sharpness and boldness. I could connect with the Evora much more than I could with the Esprit. It was great seeing this car at the Houston Auto Show.

Car Style - The Cadillac CTS-V

I'm personally not a Cadillac person, much the same way I'm not really a Nissan guy. I've been critical of Cadillac in the past, even laughing at them when they wanted to make their cars more youthful. Since 2004, the CTS-V has been the kind of car that tried to woo people away from the likes of Lexus and BMW and Audi. The car possesses sharp style with tall lights and a bold grill. It boasts plenty of edges. The V-Series means that you're not getting just any Cadillac. Oh, no. You're getting Cadillac's absolute best. Maybe I've liked Cadillac recently because I've all of a sudden just become better adjusted to today's Cadillac. I'm not going to tell you that you should stay away from BMW and Lexus and go with a Cadillac instead. Of course, that's your choice. This car (the latest model) boasts a 6.2 liter supercharged V8 putting out 556 horsepower and 551 lb. of torque. Here is Cadillac's baby here:

I'm mostly going to talk about the latest Cadillac CTS-V. If I don't specify a model, I may mostly talk about the latest version.

--- Car Style: The Cadillac CTS-V ---

Exterior.
The looks of the latest Cadillac CTS-V are of boldness. The grill is bold and proudly bearing the Cadillac badge. Both the front grill and the opening under the front grill have grill styles reminiscent of a small chain link fence. Both are outlined with chrome. The headlights, which I've criticized a lot in the past, are actually pretty nice and match the boldness up front. Very minimal fog lights occupy two small openings on either side of the front bumper. The bumper as a whole protrudes in nice ways. The front is in no way vanilla. The front hood is very bold, while not being overaggressive. It doesn't have big vents or louvers or anything.

The side profile of this car boasts some extra edge. Sharp and edgy lines accentuate the sides of the car. A minimal side vent outlined with metallic accents is on the front quarter panels near the side mirrors. This four-door sedan comes with a lovely set of wheels. The side skirts are bold along with the overfender designs.

At the rear, there are some tall tail lights along with a very long third tail light at the trunk/boot of the car. A pair of mufflers accentuate the rear decked out in... you guessed it- extra chrome. There's even some chrome above the license plate area.

Interior.
I must say... I actually like the interior of the Cadillac CTS-V. The metallic pedals are sporty to match executive-type class. The steering wheel is pretty nice, but not as nice as the lovely instrument panel and center console. A big navigation system screen accentuates the very top of the center console. Comfortable seating is available, but the big piece at the top of the front seats... I'm not sure if that's really any comfortable on the neck or not. The rear seats, however, aren't as stylish as the front seats.

I've eased up on Cadillac, and I've shown that with this Car Style blog entry. Not in love with Cadillac as I am with Mercedes-Benz and others, but my easing up process is apparent. You probably love this car more than I do. It's a very nice car.

Car Style - The Volkswagen Type 2 (T1 Model)

(UPDATED: April 10, 2012)

If you were a teenager or a young adult in the late 1960s, and if you loved hippie culture, there was no better way to get around than with the Volkswagen Type 2. The Type 2 is more commonly called either the Transporter or the Bus. This machine was probably a precursor to the modern SUV as it had seating for lots of people. The bus was nothing special performance-wise. It boasted engines packing no more than 70 horsepower with displacement north of 1,000cc. The model I'll be referring to throughout this blog entry is the T1 model, which was VERY famous during hippie times. Here is a picture of the model I'll be referring to in this blog entry:

^ from: finecars.cc - Meet the perfect hippie hauler- the Volkswagen Type 2 (T1 Model). A bus for the people.

It's important I mention this because there would be future generations of the Type 2. But really, this one is the most iconic. So let's talk style!

LATEST UPDATE(S)/REVISION(S):

MAR 24 2012 - updated look of post

--- Car Style: The Volkswagen Type 2 (T1 Model) ---

Let's talk about this car's looks.

Exterior.

The packaging of this machine's style is very nice. It may be whimsical in this day and age, but it is just cool that Volkswagen made a car like this. The front bumper is very simplistic. Some have a little extra guard to the bumper for extra protection. Two big Beetle-like headlights occupy the front of this bus. Turn signals about half the diameter of the headlights occupy the Both are outlined with chrome detail. The Volkswagen logo is proudly displayed up front for all the world to see. In the hippie movement, some people made peace signs out of the Volkswagen logo. So this wasn't a bad way to represent the hippie counterculture. I've even seen some pictures of these with a spare tire in place of the big VW logo.

From the sides, the car is actually a bit aerodynamic. It's almost like either an aerodynamic loaf of bread or even an airplane. The front doors are big and spacious. It isn't likely you were going to take random people to work or school, but it is a great bus to enjoy taking around lots of people. There are only three doors- one on the driver side and two on the passenger side. The Type 2 T1 is also known for its "barndoor" doors (especially the T1a). There are four windows on either side of the Type 2 Ti (unless there are panel versions used). There are some vents at the rear quarter panel to give the rear-mounted engine some breathing air.

At the rear, you have a simplistic rear bumper. Minimal tail lights are at the rear. I don't think too many vehicles came with lights along the top of the rear of the car. The rear end is styled nicely and with a minimal rear window. The top door of the rear gives you the trunk/boot space you need. The bottom door opens up to the rear-mounted engine.

Interior.

How often is it that you see a bus with a lavish interior? This one doesn't have one of those lavish interiors at the front controls. It's fairly simplistic as a whole. The bus has lovely second and third-row seats.

This is one of the most unique automobiles ever made. It's an awesome bus. Since it's such an iconic machine, there's no wonder there are plans to bring back the Bus for the 21st Century. The Microbus Concept was unveiled back about 2001 as a 21st Century Type 2. The Type 2 is basically a bus allowing you to commute through the city with lots of people. It's such a cool machine, even today. This bus got phased out by much more rigorous SUVs and crossover SUVs, but this Type 2 was still unlike any other car before it. It also has great significance as a cult car during the height of the hippie movement. There are still many a memory of the Summer of 1969 with this machine.
