A Day With Unlimited Money

Imagine one day where you have unlimited money. Spend as much as you like on whatever you like. Pay off whatever needs to be paid off (like bills) if you like. If anything can be acquired with money, you can have it. But remember- you have only 24 hours. After the 24 hour period, you're back to the original amount of money you have. How would you spend your unlimited money? This just for fun blog post is for all of my readers/visitors who can imagine what they'd spend their money on if they had unlimited money for one day. Imagine one day without having to say, "I don't have any money," because you have unlimited money. Don't worry about taxes or anything like that- it is just one full day where you have all the money in the world and want to purchase anything. If there is a supply for something and if you have the money to buy something, it's yours. How would you spend your limitless budget of a day? Thoughts will be expressed here, so welcome to John's Blog Space!

--- Unlimited Money: Background ---

For you gamers out there, you may have played a game or two that has a cheat that allows you to have unlimited money or a whole lot of money. You would be able to buy anything in the game and still have lots of money left over. Unlimited money is basically is your ticket to getting whatever you want that money can buy.

There will never be a day where anyone has an unlimited amount of money. However, we all can imagine what we would be able to do if we were loaded with cash. You likely may never be a millionaire. You probably wouldn't even know how to protect and establish having lots of money should you reach that point. You may even childishly spend all of your money on whatever you want.

Certain Criteria.

Here are some things to note when thinking about how you'd spend your money on a limitless budget day:

• Things that have to be paid off over time probably isn't a good idea. So if you finance something that has to be paid periodically, that probably isn't good to consider on a budgetless day. This is all unless something can be completely paid off in one day without you having to worry about it anytime soon or in the future.

• Taxes, warranties, and things like that upon purchase are perfectly fine. As long as it could be paid for that day, it's fine to include here.

• Since you have unlimited money, it would be pointless to say you would bank your unlimited money. Once the day is over, your unlimited money will go away too.

• Donating a good deal of money to organizations and charities would count. You wouldn't want to offer unlimited money to a certain cause, though.

• Unlimited money is provided that basic necessities are covered. You know, buying gas or eating at certain places also tie into your unlimited money. It's still your money. You're still covering your basic needs. If it costs money, it's yours.

• I wouldn't recommend discussing gambling. It would be pointless to have unlimited money and either win or lose... unlimited money. So stay away from this.

• Most importantly: This is about consumer spending, not anything governmental or economy-related.

Whatever the case, this blog post is a question of how you would spend your money if you had one day with unlimited money. Don't worry about taxes. Don't worry about having to pay for something long-term. And most importantly- don't worry about not having enough money. Just imagine: unlimited money for a full day. Buy whatever you want within the span of 24 hours. Once even a nanosecond past the initial 24 hours comes along, your spending of unlimited spending is over, and you're back to the amount of money you have before this unlimited money day.

So now that you know what this is all about, it is now time for you to think about how you'd spend your limitless budget. It is a one-day free ride where you have unlimited money to spend on whatever you want. You can't keep the money after one day, but you can certainly spend as much as you like for as long as you like for up to a 24-hour period. So how will YOU spend? How would you tap into your inner shopaholic? Or are you simply one of those types who would say that you don't need money for anything, or that you wouldn't you wouldn't be tempted to spend an unlimited (even if for one day) resource for one day?

--- Unlimited Money: How Others Would Spend ---

Money talks. Can you hear what it's saying? There would be a number of ways people could spend their unlimited money:

How Others May Spend Their Unlimited Money.

• I know there are some fashionable girls who believe in "if the shoe fits, buy it in every color." So I would imagine some girls would have NO problem buying shoes or whatever in various colors. Some fashionistas may lovingly fill their closets with great clothes, perhaps even from high-end designers. You may be the only girl in your high school or college wearing 7 for All Mankind jeans, Dior sunglasses, and Louboutin pumps as you're getting an education.

• Financially-struggling people and families can certainly have this as a lifeline to get through a financial pinch. Having everything paid for in full can mean a whole lot.

• Someone who may do a lot of traveling may have the ability to go to a certain place anywhere in the world and have money to do some shopping if need be.

• If someone (even yourself) has an emergency situation and needs some quick money, having an unlimited amount of money can help finance something immediate. Some people have more important immediate needs than anything materialistic.

• Profit and non-profit/not-for-profit organizations would be able to fund or do anything with unlimited cash. Surely an extreme case of financial stability would be accomplished.

• Local sports teams could have money for all the available resources needed. So if a little league baseball team needed more money for custom uniforms or baseball bats, unlimited money would help the team have all the needed finances to get their team out to compete.

• Those madly in love with someone may want to spend some of that unlimited money on their lover or spouse. A fancy dinner at a lovely downtown restaurant would be a sweet way to appease to your lover. You could even order the most expensive food and drinks offered on the menu with no worries of paying too much! (By the way, I probably sense your lover/spouse nudging you reading this. Treat your man/woman right! :D)

• You may be the nightclub type, and so you don't mind going to the swankiest nightclub paying for anything to your heart's delight.

• Someone who may need money to finance a project usually may ask for donations or set aside some money for a project. With unlimited money, enough money can help finance a project successfully.

Many people and entities would spend an unlimited amount of money any sort of way they can. These were just a few examples to get this post going.

If you're not reading the full blog post, please click on "Read More" to read the rest of this blog post. I'll share how I'd spend my limitless budget if I had 24 hours to shop and spend my money on whatever I wanted.

--- How I Would Spend my Unlimited Money Day ---

Here is a look at how I would spend my one-day limitless budget.

Basics.

For one thing, I am very much into technology and devices. I have actually developed interest in doing tech reviews. Part of the reason is because I've wanted to try out some electronic devices and don't have any sufficient money or have any great confidence in a certain device.

My Own Spending Spree.

• I don't believe in buying a gaming console just for one game or a set of games. However, I MIGHT get an original XBOX for Forza Motorsport and the two Project Gotham games; then, I'd get an XBOX 360 to play Forza 3 and Forza 4. I would want to be more experienced and spend some time with the Forza games aside from my Gran Turismo playing. Otherwise, I'm still perfectly happy with my PS3.

• I could go on a spending spree online trying to find more games to build up my PS3 collection while also maybe finding some PS1, PS2, and PC games. I'd surely love the opportunity to finally own games I've either long wanted to own or play. You basically have to get games online these days since not a lot of physical stores will actually have certain older games available.

• I may even go out and buy some online-only games for my PS3 with some online money. Maybe even some downloadable content (DLC).

• I might buy a current-spec computer just to keep up with everyone else. Otherwise, my 2005 PC is fine as is. I'd probably just upgrade it a little more.

• If a PC program has to be purchased online just to keep using it, I'd surely pay for it and not have to worry about it ever again.

• I could step up from my SanDisk Sansa Fuze and buy the top-of-the-line version of the latest iPod Touch (no iPhone for me- I'm not a phone person). I would also go out and buy as many different apps and songs for it that I like. I could even get a lot of accessories and docks for it as well.

• I could buy myself a more proper camcorder in case I really want to do some more serious videos for YouTube. I do still love my Sony Bloggie (MHS-PM5).

• Expensive programs, like 3D Studio MAX and FL Studio would be things I'd buy or order just to make more material for online as well as perhaps making things available for download.

• I could get a new music keyboard. After years with Casio keyboards, I'd want to go from Casio to Yamaha, and especially a Yamaha keyboard that has XG MIDI capability.

• If it were possible, I'd upgrade my PC monitor or even get myself an HDTV for my room.

• I might buy some more clothes just to enhance my wardrobe and have some more stuff to wear.

• I probably wouldn't mind having a treadmill or a free-standing punching bag to stay fit.

This would be how I would spend my money if I had unlimited money for a day. I kept most of my ideas basic and realistic. Not once have I mentioned buying a mansion or buying 50,000 kinds of some product.

As mentioned before, money talks. The importance of having enough money to get things certainly speaks volumes. I based my ideas entirely on what I would do with the unlimited money. So what and how would YOU spend your full day of unlimited money? Feel free to share! Thank you for reading!

Postseason NIT: Honor or Dishonor?

The postseason NIT (National Invitation Tournament) is a "best of the rest" college basketball tournament where those not good enough to play for a National Championship can still play for national pride. This postseason tournament is seen more like a consolation prize for NCAA tournament-bound teams that fail to make the NCAA tournament. Selecting a field of teams is tough unless you win your conference championship. Even then, you will still be among the odd teams that could still get in as an at-large. Some teams put forth a valiant effort all season long, but don't do enough of a good job to impress the NCAA tournament selection committee. So as a result, they are relegated to the NIT and will have to settle for next season to try to make the NCAA Tournament.

Recent talks a few years ago of expanding the current field of teams to a larger number have meant that the NIT may be done away with. The current alignment for the NCAA tournament on the Division 1 level is a 68-team field for the men and a 64-team field for the women. If you were to tack on the 32-team field that make up the NIT, you would be looking at a 96-team field (as well as a seeding and scheduling nightmare)!

The postseason National Invitation Tournament is seen as a slap in the face for snubbed NCAA tourney teams. However, it is severely underappreciated. So where do YOU stand? Do you think the Postseason NIT is an honor or a dishonor for all the teams involved?

--- Postseason NIT: Honor or Dishonor? My Stand ---

I only think the NIT is a dishonor if you feel you've been wrongly snubbed by the NCAA tournament committee. Every year, the NCAA tournament committee picks some teams that seem overrated or have no place in the field to sports reporters and sports fans. Look at what the NIT provides. For one thing- you can still play basketball, and you still have something to play for. Success in the NIT can help you to recruit better and maybe get some new players who can take a school to the NCAA Tournament.

I also think it is a dishonor if you feel this tournament is a way of saying you are just not good enough. There are two ways to look at it. You may be a team that had loads of promise but had a lackluster season. Conversely, you may be a team that had next to no promise of tournament aspirations until you came alive and started going on a tear through the season. It is tough to make either the NCAA tournament or the NIT tournament. There are more than 330-something tournament eligible schools in NCAA Division 1 basketball (Independent schools are disqualified from tournament entry). A team has to be among the best less than one-thirds of the 330-something eligible schools in NCAA Division 1. TALL order if you ask me.

My inclination is to say that the NIT should be an HONOR and not a dishonor. I equate the NIT in NCAA Division 1 basketball to competing in any non-BCS Bowl game in NCAA FBS Football. I would rather watch the NCAA Tournament more than I would the NIT tournament. However, teams who play in the NIT are not bad teams just because they weren't selected to play in the main tournament. It just means they were the select number of teams that stood out among others despite not making the NCAA tournament field. Look at it this way- you're still playing meaningful basketball while every other school is done and are preparing for next season. And as far as the NIT is concerned, who DOESN'T love the opportunity to play at Madison Square Garden in New York City with something big to play for? Every team in the NIT is playing for that chance to play for the championship. And just because you win the NIT, does it mean that you're not good enough to win the NCAA tourney, so you have to settle for the NIT? No. It just means that you shown that you are one of the best teams in America even if you don't make the NCAA tournament or didn't make the NCAA tournament.

So I see the NIT as an honor rather than any sort of dishonor. It is really a tournament that just isn't as appreciated among others since it isn't for the NCAA Division 1 National Championship. There is still a good deal of pride involved nationally to extend a basketball season and win something like the postseason NIT.

Selena

(UPDATED: April 1, 2012)

Selena Quintanilla-Pérez was a Tejano superstar who was killed on Friday March 31, 1995 by Yolanda Saldívar, the ex-president of her fan club and her boutiques. Selena was a 23-year old star on the rise before her life was taken away at such a young age. A possible lifelong career of success and fame was taken away so soon thanks to one's jealousy. No one knows how far her star would have shone if she were still with us today. In preparing this blog post, I had no idea that the dark anniversary of her death is approaching. I knew it was around this time, but not THIS close. This blog post highlights on her and some of her music.

Before I begin, here's a fun fact... did you know that Selena Gomez was named after Selena Quintanilla-Pérez?

Most information (excluding personal commentary) provided by the Wikipedia entry on Selena as well as SelenaForever.com.

LATEST UPDATE(S)/REVISION(S):

APR 1 2012 - edited information on Selena

--- A (Brief) Look at Selena ---

I obviously do not know much of anything about her. However, I've heard some of her songs to have a general idea of who she is and what she brought to music.

I'll begin with a picture. THIS is Selena:

Selena Quintanilla-Pérez
^ from: fold3.com (best I could find) - The late Selena Quintanilla-Pérez was one of the brightest stars in Tejano music before her murder in 1995.

Basics.

Selena Quintanilla-Pérez was born on April 16, 1971 in Lake Jackson, Texas, USA. This Mexican-American singing star began singing starting in 1980. It was 1984 when she released her first album, Selena y Los Dinos. She would go on to create a handful of other albums through her career, all receiving vast amounts of fame and honor. What would be her final concert was in late February 1995 in Houston at the Astrodome.

Selena's Dark Fate and Reaction.

Now... for Selena's dark fate. Money was getting embezzled (or taking something from someone as a means of betrayal or anti-trust) from Selena's fan club from Yolanda Saldívar, who was the president of Selena's fan club as well as her boutiques. This obviously led to Selena and her family wanting to part ways with Yolanda. A secret meeting was arranged and agreed upon between Selena and Yolanda at a Days Inn Motel in Corpus Christi, Texas, USA. An argument between the two eventually led to Yolanda brandishing a gun and shooting Selena as she was trying to walk out the door of the motel room. She tried to escape but later collapsed in the lobby of the motel and was killed. Before being killed, she noted to people in the lobby that Yolanda was the assailant.

Outrage poured out from the Hispanic community as they called the day of Selena's murder as "Black Friday." Many have thought that Yolanda was jealous of Selena's success and killed her as Selena's fame was rising. It was said that Yolanda tried to take her own life but "accidentally" took Selena's life instead. Nobody was buying this, and neither were the ones who eventually sentenced Yolanda to life in prison for first-degree murder. Over 60K people attended her funeral including various celebrities, even including Madonna. I even remember in my middle school days the outpouring of support of Selena and her music. There were students at my school who wore Selena shirts in loving memory of Selena as news broke of Selena's murder. It was no doubt a horrible experience for such a heroine in music to have her life taken away so young.

Immortalizing and Remembering Selena.

The slain Tejano star's life would be portrayed in a 1997 movie called "Selena," with Jennifer Lopez playing as Selena. A movie or film in 2003 would highlight on Selena's final-ever concert in February 1995 at the Houston Astrodome. The motel in Corpus Christi where Selena was killed has a statue outside of the motel called the Mirador del Flor. For fans of Selena, this is a surreal place. It gets a great deal of traffic from tourists.

There are people to this day who still love Selena and what she brought to music. They even still listen to songs from Selena, remembering just what she brought to music before being killed. Some people even think Tejano still isn't the same without her. Then again, I know very little (if anything) about Tejano music past or present, so I can't say that with any sort of professionalism. All I know is that Selena and her music still resonate with many people even years since her death.

Most of what I've read about Selena and her untimely passing in preparing this blog post was mostly along the lines of jealousy of one's stardom. Selena was becoming a major deal while someone else just got jealous and decided to prevent Selena's star from rising any further. Who knows how far Selena's star would have risen if she were still with us to this day? Shame.

--- The Music of Selena ---

The majority of this post is just a look back at Selena's music. All of the following have been provided for educational and entertainment purposes. Thanks to all YouTube channels that allowed their videos to be embedded. Any songs I can't embed will be shown with a link to the content.

The first two songs I'll feature are two of her English-language songs. If you've never heard these before, this is your first chance to hear her sing.

If I Could Fall in Love.

The first one I've heard from Selena was this one called "If I Could Fall in Love." It is an English-language song from Selena. Feel free to enjoy this one:

Dreaming of You.

Of the two English-language songs I've heard, I like this one better. It is both the music and the instrumentals that are just sweet together.

I had learned from another website that the two English songs you just listened to were only two of four English-language songs Selena had planned to be in an album. Part of my thoughts was that Selena was hoping to emerge from the Latin music scene to perhaps cross over into the American music scene. "If I Could Fall in Love" and "Dreaming of You" are the only two English-language songs I've heard. Selena probably could have been an amazing transitional music star had her life not been taken away so soon.

I have more songs to feature. More of her non-English songs will be featured next. So make sure you're reading the full blog post if you've enjoyed what you've read so far. Read on after this Jump Break to listen to her other songs that I've chosen for this post. Also, don't forget to subscribe and follow my blog if you love it.

Love John's Blog Space? If so (and if you haven't yet subscribed or followed), Subscribe and/or Follow!

It is now time to move on and showcase some more songs of hers.

Como La Flor.

This is regarded as one of Selena's most popular songs. Here is your chance to experience Selena and one of her most famous songs. This Tejano star shone her brightest with this song:

Bidi Bidi Bom Bom.

While not a fan of this song, I am sure a lot of my readers would appreciate it if I post this song among the many different songs Selena did. So here is another popular song of Selena's for you all... "Bidi Bidi Bom Bom" is ready for your listening pleasure:

La Carcacha.

Here is one more track for you from Selena. This video is a collection of Selena's performances with "La Carcacha" playing. Check out some of Selena's moves here with this nice song playing:

I only included so many songs to entertain my audience. I also included so many so that I don't run the risk of you having a slow connection to this blog. It can be a tough task to try to offer videos while also keep this blog and its posts viewable and efficient. If there are any other songs you all may like from Selena that I should feature here, feel free to Contact Me via E-Mail.

--- In Closing... ---

As I had mentioned previously, "Selena" was released in 1997 with Jennifer Lopez playing as Selena. If you're interested in seeing the movie to Selena, have a look at these (and feel free to buy them if you are interested in doing so. I would appreciate your support):

THIS LINE (from left to right):
• "Selena" the movie on DVD. Rated PG by the Motion Picture Association of America
(here is a trailer on YouTube for this movie: "Selena" the Movie Trailer - YouTube)

• "Selena," the 10th Anniversary Two-Disc Special Edition.

More Selena for you on Amazon:

Thanks for supporting my work!

I'll be honest with you- I had no idea in preparing this initial blog post that it is coming up on 17 years since Selena was killed. I created the post mostly to highlight on the music career of Selena. Hope you enjoyed this blog post of mine. I will edit this post if need be to make sure it remains useful and accurate.

When Colors Trend

(UPDATED: April 5, 2012)

Regardless of the latest clothing trends, colors themselves sometimes trend as easily the clothes they appear on or in. It doesn't take too much to sense when certain colors become trendy. Certain outfits and posts are noted more for certain colors rather than the clothes themselves. These color trends are not only restricted to color blocking. When it comes to fashion, color sometimes is as trendy (or more so) than certain fashion pieces themselves. This blog post is a brief one offering some thoughts on color trends as well as highlighting three trendy colors as of this blog post. I want to know how you feel about when colors trend, so please be sure to comment on this topic if it interests you.

--- When Colors Trend ---

There are lots of colors out there, and fashion designers usually dictate the pace of what is a trendy color. Some fashion shows basically have fashion items of a certain color. When the same sort of color appears on fashion runways or during a Fashion Week, it usually means it is a must-wear color for those who follow such shows and collections. For example, if one show features multiple designers with red as a common color, it means that more fashionable types will want to wear red items inspired by the certain fashion designs and collections. Multiple designers showcasing multiple shades of blue usually will note how trendy blue will be. Sometimes, even fashion bloggers try to generate trends.

Sometimes, it isn't so much about specific colors, but often times TYPES of colors. Pastel colors, for example, may become trendy during certain seasons or just overall. Neutral colors can also be trendy, as they are now.

I actually created this blog post based on how trendy coral, mint green, and aqua blue have become in the blogosphere. Almost as if I NEEDED to create a blog post to highlight on color trends. I swear I've seen a number of different posts where ladies have worn some sort of mint-colored items and accessories, for instance.

AN ADMITTANCE: I wanted to blog about neutral colors as part of my Fashion and Style series of posts. But because I don't KNOW about neutral colors much, I didn't blog about this topic. I don't blog about anything unless I want to know more about something or have enough understanding to post a quality post on something.

--- Color Trend Samples ---

Here are some recent color trends coupled with some examples. Some of these are the best ones I could find, so I may have to edit this post in case there are some images I can not use:

• Coral - sort of a pale, somewhat neutral pink color.
coral fashion
^ from: thisnext.com - Coral is like a medium of light pink and dark pink. It has become a VERY popular color as of late among fashionable types and fashion bloggers.

• Mint Green - a bold, popping green (almost blue) color that is a bit pale.
mint green fashion
^ from: www.dailydoseoflies.com - Not only is mint green famous for clothing, it is also trendy for nail polish (among many other things). Another popular color of late.

• Aqua - a bright blue color midway between blue and green.
aqua blue fashion
^ from: bryllupe.com (best I could find) - The blue alternative for mint is aqua. It has a bold, almost pastel-like hue to it. It can be a beautiful color ranging from a dark sky blue or a more teal-like blue.

Coral, mint, and aqua have become three of the trendiest colors of late. Those who try to go with these colors often try to incorporate them into their wardrobe by coming up with some nice outfits. A lot of fashion bloggers I follow sometimes go for certain colors or color types. Advance to the next section to get some examples of certain bloggers wearing certain trendy colors and trendy types of color.

--- Trendy Colors Across the Blogopshere ---

Want some examples of these colors? Here are some bloggers wearing the colors I mentioned above. I'll try to mention different blogs rather than show more than one post from the same blogger:

Of course, subscribe and follow these blogs if their work interests you.

• Coral Example: "OOTD: Its far from over" - Pearls, Lace, and Ruffles

• Mint Green Example: "THE MINT LONG DRESS WITH LACE - new at www.hauteandrebellious.com" - HAUTE AND REBELLIOUS

• Aqua Example: "Aqua Sensation." - Maytedoll

• Pastel Example: Fun with Fashion: Playing Dress Up! - Principessa Gabriella (Outfit 1)

• Neutral Example: "Flower Child" - Deconstruction (couldn't really find anything better)

And there you go. See how trendy certain colors can be?

Should You Focus on Color Trends?

By virtue of saying that colors are more important than most fashion items, you note that you mostly get a certain garment or fashion accessory just for its color. It is always best to find garments and styles that suit you best. Trendy colors usually come and go. It may be colors like Army Green or Navy Blue at one point, then the trendy color becomes something like brown or orange. So color trends are almost as much as any other fashion trend.

--- Final Thoughts on Color Trends ---

It is often times colors that can be more trendy than individual fashion pieces themselves. Just like any trend, color trends come and go. It is still best to simply find clothes, accessories, beauty products, etc. that suit you best regardless of its color. So don't just buy something of a certain color just to keep up with any trends.

Some items do become trendy and classic thanks in part to a certain color. One such example of late has been white jeans. Certain specific items often are trendy because of a certain unique color.

--- Cross-Promotion (not related to this topic) ---

TOMS

TOMS shoes have become popular for two reasons- the shoes themselves and the fact that purchases of these shoes will help provide shoes for children in need. This sort of ethical chic has made these shoes trendy. Usually, TOMS shoes have become the new "it" shoes for the casual set, especially their slip-on espadrilles. These shoes usually either are seen in canvas or in glittery designs. Either way, these casual shoes have become trendy. These shoes are for both males and females, both young and old. TOMS also makes T-shirts and sunglasses among other things.

In case you don't know what TOMS shoes are like, here are some of the ever-popular TOMS:

TOMS Shoes
^ from: amazon.com (best I could find) - TOMS' quote: "One pair sold = one pair donated." This Santa Monica, CA, USA-based company is all about providing shoes for needy children. All it takes is a purchase of one of their shoes.

A lot of people, however, think TOMS are incredibly ugly with truly no sense of style. There are those who would think of TOMS as the warm-weather alternative to sheepskin boots. Some people may even question if efforts are TRULY going to children most in need of shoes. You know you have a crowd that buys into one's practices, and then you have the crowd questions one's practices. I want to believe that these shoes have caught on mostly due in part to the ethical side of these shoes. You're buying a pair of TOMS to help out others who could use a pair of shoes. You aren't giving people in need a pair of designer shoes, but you are providing shoes for the less fortunate to wear. Any sort of benevolence is always in style all year long.

A TOMS Rival?

Skechers' answer to TOMS is called BOBS. These shoes are similarly styled to TOMS but share the same purpose- giving shoes to children in need. A link to BOBS will be provided later in this post if you want to learn more about BOBS.

What Do I Think About TOMS Shoes?

From a fashion perspective, I think TOMS shoes are the successor to VANS slip-on sneakers or the ubiquitous Converses. From an ethical perspective, there is one thing that will NEVER go out of style- benevolence. Knowing your money is going towards helping someone in need is always a great feeling. I am not going to go question others' practices or anything. I am not that kind of person. I am very sure that if I were to buy a pair of TOMS, that I think my purchase would go towards helping a child most in need of some shoes.

These shoes are just the latest of the comfortable and casual shoes. So whether you think these are horridly ugly or stylish, (at least from TOMS) the most important thing is that you are getting these shoes to help children in need of shoes.

Here are various resources and links for you on this topic;

• TOMS official website can be found here: www.toms.com.

• To get an idea of what TOMS is trying to accomplish, there is a campaign online called One Day Without Shoes. My vast feminine audience certainly wouldn't want to imagine a day without shoes (especially girls who love shoes). However, imagine if we didn't have any shoes to wear. Learn more by having a look at this website: One Day Without Shoes.

• I mentioned Skechers' BOBS. If you want to learn more about the BOBS collection from Skechers, please have a look at this site: BOBS Shoes by Skechers.

I may provide more material if I decide to edit this with new information. But for now, have a look at these links.

Shift 2 Unleashed

Shift 2 Unleashed offers up an upgraded experience from its predecessor. An enhanced variety of cars and tracks help broaden the scope and appeal of this game. Slightly Mad Studios went bonkers and spared no expense to deliver and expand Shift apart from the initial title. Racing can now be done at night with this new title. Are you ready for this new experience? Shift 2 Unleashed will be reviewed by me in this blog post.

This review is based on my PS3 experience of this game.

--- Shift 2 Unleashed ---

Need for Speed Shift 2 Unleashed
^ from: amazon.com - Shift 2 Unleashed.

While part of the Need for Speed franchise, "Shift 2 Unleashed" is not an NFS title, per se. You aren't trying to outrun police or try to earn street cred. So some people just call this game as Shift 2 Unleashed. Any NFS game with "Unleashed" usually means Electronic Arts will spare no expense to deliver the most intense experience to its players.

The fellow who will help you in your career for this game is drifting star Vaughn Gittin Jr. You will also encounter some other real-world motorsports talent such as Tommy Milner, Jamie Campbell-Walter, and more. It is Vaughn Gittin Jr. letting you know what's up in racing in S2U. He's your friend... until you do the final Drift series. Well, he's still your friend in every other series.

You can race almost any course at night in addition to in the daytime and at dusk.
Your ultimate goal in this game is to race in the FIA GT1 World Championship. You're going to need to do a great deal of racing to reach this championship. You will need to do a lot more to win it.

There is now an Autolog feature, which serves primarily as your social networking medium within the game. Each time you beat a record or want to share photos or videos, Autolog will allow you and your online friends to see your work. You can also compare your stats and times against your friends. So... feel free trying to better your friends in S2U! :)

--- Shift 2 Unleashed: Details ---

Here is a look at the finer details of this game.

Cars.

All of the cars represent America, Europe, and Japan. They also represent cars of today and the past. The various cars are all styled beautifully and can be tuned to be totally dominant. Cars are classified in classes from D to A. The A-Class cars are the immensely capable cars.

A more diverse tuning menu accompanies each car. Be careful tuning certain cars because some modifications can take your car out of a certain classification. Certain races will disqualify certain cars from appearing in a championship or a race if they are in a different class level. Just like in the first Shift, you can upgrade any car from its original class (assuming it's not an A-Class car) to a higher class.

The extreme in tuning a car is bringing it to Works spec. If you have tuned a car to such a degree, a Works package gives your car the absolute final touch in becoming an absolute beast. Its performance capabilities will far exceed the stock car's performance limits and become your own dream race car. You can take your best Works car to the Works championship in "Shift 2 Unleashed." Not all cars, however, have Works packages available.

You can customize your car's visual appearance with many paint and vinyl options as well as wheel choices. Cars can also be fitted with body kits and interior options to take your car from production to pure racing machine. Be sure to set aside some time to make your car YOUR car with these visual options.

Tracks.

A lot of the tracks from the first Shift return for "Shift 2 Unleashed." In addition to some of the returning tracks, you can now race in the Middle East, China, and even Australia. Some of the new tracks include the Dubai Autodrome and Bathurst (Mount Panorama Circuit). Gone are drift-specific courses in favor of full-lap drift courses. There are, however, maybe one or few point-to-point drift zones. You certainly do one around Irwindale.

Tracks can be raced in the daytime, evening, and night. Few courses aren't available at night, but almost all are. The same driving aids from the first Shift are available to you. Try racing a course at night to try to attack the corners while also dealing with darkness.

Race Types.

These are some of the many options available to you:

• Race - just a basic race.

• Time Attack - either solo or with other cars, you compete to score the fastest lap time. Set the opponents to zero in Quick mode to do your own time trial.

• Hot Lap Gauntlet - you are given a few laps to try to clear the fastest lap time. If successful, you win. If not, you are rewarded based on which lap time you surpass. You get only a handful of laps to try to beat the best lap time. These events will give you a certain car to use as a loaner, so no need to purchase a car beforehand. Best news is that you can use these events to help

• Drift - try to score the most points to surpass the three best drift points.

• Eliminator - a certain time limit is allowed. As time ticks down, the last-placed driver is eliminated. The race will resume until one is left standing.

• Endurance - long-distance racing is what Endurance is all about. Try to sustain your energy and plan your attack efficiently to win these events.

Other kinds of racing are featured, but these are the majority of events. Autolog will even recommend events just for you based on preference and what you like to drive. Friends of yours can even recommend you events to take part in.

--- "Shift 2 Unleashed" Final Thoughts and Review ---

I've heard so much about how the handling model is too loose compared to the first Shift game. Really, I haven't noticed too much difference. The one thing I really don't like about Shift 2 Unleashed is the Helmet Cam. It gets too confusing trying to use the Helmet Cam. As an advantage, it looks ahead to the next corner. Trouble is, it just gets confusing trying to keep the car on the road while the Helmet Cam makes it a bit tougher to properly set your car up for a corner.

This game is actually harder than the first Shift. Its biggest flaw is that there are some bugs that make this game quite a bit less desirable to play. I sometimes have noted the AI drivers would be stuck after some wrecks. That even include wrecks I've intentionally and unintentionally caused. I even once raced against a friend of mine online and for some reason, his car just stopped (and I nearly hit him!). So I ended up winning thanks to a bug. The bugs aren't problematic and persistent, though. Just be careful when playing.

Okay- both Shift games are great. I can't really say I have a preference towards either this one or the first Shift. I know I'm an American, but I sometimes I'd prefer having some well-respected European figure as a voice-over rather than an American. There's nothing really wrong with Vaughn Gittin Jr. as the main voiceover.

Do you want to get this game if you don't have it already? Help support my work by buying on Amazon:

^ Shift 2 Unleashed. Available for: PlayStation 3, XBOX 360, PC, and PC Download.

Speaking of Amazon, people gave the first Shift a 3.5 star rating while about 2 stars for "Shift 2 Unleashed." Still- my reviews are only my own stand on games. Take the advice or leave it. That's all I ask. Thank you for reading! Race 'em hard! :)

Need for Speed: Shift

Slightly Mad Studios created a spin-off of the Need for Speed series with Shift. As opposed to traditional NFS games, this one is sim-oriented. It showcases the intense reality of racing. It is also a showcases defining what kind of racer you are. Are you the precise kind who keeps the car between the white lines and make clean passes; or are you the aggressive driver who performs dirty overtaking moves and driving like a bloody fool? A lot of racing awaits gamers in Shift. The ultimate goal is to race in the Need for Speed Live World Tour. But to get there, you will have to do a lot of racing. This blog post is a look at "NFS: Shift."

--- Need for Speed: Shift ---

Need for Speed Shift
^ from: amazon.com - Need for Speed got serious when Shift came along from Slightly Mad Studios. This is the box for the PS3 version of "NFS: Shift."

"Need for Speed: Shift" offered some fresh air with a new concept for the series. While it is still considered part of Need for Speed, it is not any traditional NFS title by any stretch. Some just call it Shift. It was released in 2009 for PlayStation 3, XBOX 360, and PC. The experience is based entirely on simulation-type racing. There is absolutely nothing along the lines of illegal street racing or anything like that. This is a straight-up simulation type racer. This is a sim experience that is very much tailored to you, however. The very first action you take part in helps you to set up the game and various other parameters to help set the game up for you. Your performance in the start of your first test run allows you to have a custom-made set of parameters based on your test run.

You must race your way through three tiers of competition to eventually reach the Need for Speed Live World Tour, where (pardon the cliché) only the strong survive. You must collect Stars to advance from one tier to another. You start off in the lowest tier- Tier 1. Collect enough to reach newer levels of competition and eventually make your way to the Need for Speed Live World Tour. Along the way, you will need to buy cars and compete in a variety of racing events. Some of your racing action will mostly consist of circuit races. There are even races that are limited to certain manufacturers and certain cars. Later on, you will be drifting as well as taking part in endurance racing. Your plate will be full of racing, to put it mildly.

I will say that unlike most other racing games, this is one of the games that really focuses on the driver, as opposed to being about just the cars. You are almost intrigued to race from the Driver's view every time. Each big hit will show the screen turn black and white as you hear the driver grunting after a hard hit. The game will honestly scare you. However, it is a good way to demonstrate the feeling of driving at full speed. A big part of leveling up in this game is based on how you are as a driver. You are either a Precision driver or an Aggressive driver. Precision rewards clean overtakes, staying on the racing line, and landing fast times. Aggression rewards dirty overtakes, spinning out others, hitting other cars, and things like that. The ultimate goal from a driver's perspective is to reach Level 50.

Cars.

The cars you will be using in this game encompass three regions- United States, Europe, and Japan. There are a huge number of cars you can choose from. Find a car that best suits you to take on each level of competition. Various cars can be tuned to various levels. Some cars have one or more of the following qualities:

• Nitrous - this car can be equipped with nitrous for on-demand power.
• Works - this car can be customized to Works spec, going past its stock limits.
• Drift - this car is eligible to compete in drift events.

Each car belongs to certain tiers. You begin with Tier 1 cars and work your way up to the fire-breathing supercars in Tier 4. A car can be upgraded to a higher tier if it is in a lower tier. Be warned- upgrading a car to a higher tier will disqualify it from racing in a lower-tier event unless you tune down that car.

As for tuning options, you have plenty. A lot of the basic tuning options are available to you. In addition to tuning options are Race Parts options to help push your car towards Works spec. They will help give you a distinctive advantage over the competition with racing-spec parts. Take any sort of advantage you can get to make your car as capable as possible. Your car will be a proper Works model once enough tuning has been completed on your car.

You can customize any of your cars with various paint options, vinyl packages, and wheels. More options become available as you advance further in Career Mode. With cars, there are bonuses and badges you can earn for racing a certain number of cars and for logging a certain number of miles. So keep racing hard!

Tracks.

A world of tracks await you. Many of the tracks are real-world venues along with a few fictional courses. Each of the three different regions of cars are also the same regions tracks can be raced at. Tracks can be raced on around the United States, all over Europe, and in various venues in Japan. Have you the courage to race and win at these venues? There are both circuit racing events and drift events for you to take part in. There are driving aids available to help you race the course properly, such as a visible racing line. Races can be run at dawn, midday, or dusk.

The majority of tracks are real-world facilities and are mostly permanent road courses. There are a few ovals in the game you race on as well as temporary street circuits. The brutally long Nürburgring Nordschleife can also be raced either in point-to-point segments to the full 12.86-mile (20.70-kilometer) nightmare of Green Hell.

You can also race drift events. These mostly involve sections of tracks closed off for drift, but there are a few tracks that are a full lap around for drift points. The goal is to rack up as many drift points as possible in three individual sections. The combined total determines the winner.

Race Types

Here is a look at some or most of the events you will take part in:

• Race - a straight-up normal race.

• Time Attack - with opponents on track, try to land the fastest lap time during the duration of the session.

• Car Battle - you must choose between two cars offered to you (no need to purchase either car beforehand). It is a best-of-3 competition. The first race has you leading the opposing car. The second race has the opposing car leading you. If the score is even at 1-1, the third and final race is a heads-up race to determine who wins.

• Drift - try to score as many drift points as possible in a series of rounds. The driver who posts the most drift points after all sessions have concluded will win.

• Eliminator - The last-place car after a certain time limit will be eliminated. The winner is the one who leads when time has expired once all other cars have been eliminated.

• Endurance - Rather than try to win as quickly as you can, endurance races involve strategy and consistency in a prolonged race. Pit stops also play a role in these events as well. The races shouldn't be terribly long. For example, you race three laps around the Nürburgring Nordschleife in Shift. I've had to do three laps around Nürburgring Nordschleife in "Enthusia Professional Racing," and that's about 20-30 minutes total to complete. So these endurances aren't Gran Turismo long.

There are also various championships with various rules and race types to be concerned with. Later in Career Mode, there are certain Invitational Events you can take part in to make more money and win more cars. These events are varied and feature a multitude of cars. Money and cars are what you'll get if you succeed in these events. So make the most of these opportunities to enhance your scope of racing. Races can have as many as 16 competitors on track (including yourself). You can also engage in online racing.

--- NFS: Shift - Final Thoughts/Review ---

Shift is a tremendous game with many different ways to enjoy racing. My biggest grab for this game is that this completely moves away from the Underground-style, street racing style and goes almost pure sim. It even pains me to say that this game delivers a better sim experience than the Gran Turismo series. However, Shift is not any hardcore simulation (like rFactor or GTR). It has that just-right feel that keeps the racing entertaining and enjoying. Car choice and racing types are all very enjoyable. The game even has a great deal of depth that most other racing games and racing series can't really touch.

One thing I do take issue with is that even though the game allows you to define your personality through Precision and/or Aggression, accumulating Stars seems pointless when some of the goals go away from the different tasks. For example, if you're a Precision racer, earning a Star may require you to (for example) spin out four cars. So no one racer can be COMPLETELY a Precision racer or an Aggressive racer. I don't know. It just defeats the purpose of clearly defining a certain style of racer you are.

Some people have complained that you earn too much money in this game. You aren't required to do car collecting, but you can certainly get yourself plenty of cars in this game, have you the money. You can spend all of your time trying to clear all of the races and easily have enough Stars to reach the NFS Live World Tour. A certain sense of accomplishment seems pointless when you waste your time trying to collect Stars to access the other Tiers rather than earn them by doing loads of races in each Tier. I am not kidding- I did most of my racing in Tier 1 and Tier 2 and had enough Stars to access the NFS Live World Tour without even running a single race in Tier 3, Tier 4, or the NFS Live World Tour. The game sort of assumes that when you access a certain Tier, you are supposed to automatically go to the next Tier. But... who am I to tell you tell you how to play this game?

Even if you're a Gran Turismo fan (or even a Forza Motorsport fan), trust me- the experience this game provides an outstanding one on the racing front. Intense racing and vicious crashes make this title pretty enticing to play. It is a must-own to me if you are any real racing game fan.

You're Welcome Here

(UPDATED: March 21, 2012)

Ever feel unwanted sometimes? Ever feel like your presence means nothing to whatever party or people you are around? I created this blog post for a reason- to offer sweet words for all visitors- you ARE welcome here! Don't ever think your input and involvement mean nothing to me. Without you, this is just another blog or website that nobody truly cares about. As some of you may know, most of my opinions are based on actual experiences of mine or of personal opinions I share. I figure if I don't share my mind about things, nobody will truly know what I think about something. So please enjoy this post of mine.

By the way, I have not ruled out making a related blog post based on elements of this topic. So stay tuned for a future blog post from me with some related issues mentioned here.

As of March 19, 2012, "John's Blog Space" has reached 1.5 million views (Blogger/Blogspot stats)! So thanks to all of you for contributing to the view count for this blog!

LATEST UPDATE(S)/REVISION(S)

MAR 21 2012 - made some edits, added more content, changed back to original title

--- You ARE Welcome Here! ---

Sometimes, I admit to being too concerned about what other people think. None of what I post is to draw any kind of reaction unless I am adamant about expressing something nobody else will express. When I visit some other peoples' blogs, I sometimes wonder if my comments are actually appreciated by whomever I post comments on. Many people will usually say that all comments are appreciated. Some even may go as far as to say that they will try to visit others' blogs based on whomever posts comments.

I comment on a lot of feminine fashion blogs. Thing is, I mostly follow feminine fashion and comment on it. I sometimes think it's unusual for a feminine fashion blog to get comments from a male. To me, most feminine fashion bloggers probably think, "why is a GUY commenting on something made for GIRLS?" That even sometimes apply to YouTube videos of beauty gurus. So maybe that's why I don't feel too welcome with comments on certain blogs. I do, however, comment professionally and like I actually know what I'm talking about. The one thing I always wonder is if other people appreciate my presence and my comments. Some people respond to me; some people don't respond to me. I just want to be assured that my appearance and involvement aren't getting in the way of other peoples' business and other peoples' sites.

IN CASE YOU'RE INTERESTED: I go into further detail about a masculine perspective on feminine fashion in "Male Perspective on Female Fashion." Click on the link at the end of this sentence to read this post of mine: "Male Perspective on Female Fashion" - John's Blog Space.

--- What I Want My Readers to Know ---

I absolutely mean what I say here... your visiting of "John's Blog Space" (as well as my other blogs) is absolutely welcome. Not a lot of people really recognize what someone visiting a blog or a website means to that person. In my life, there have been times and places where I've felt unwanted. Because I know what being unwelcome and unwanted feels like, I don't want other people to feel disregarded. So I'm thankful of all people who even remotely care about any topic I post here. When you did a search for something and found it in my blog, that means I've garnered your attention. All I can hope for is that what I've posted will be to your liking and your enjoyment. I don't just post material just to draw a reaction or just to pull people into a spammy website. Everything I do and post bears some sort of importance or usefulness. It wouldn't be worth expending a search engine's capabilities to find my blog(s) if there was nothing of use to the general public-at-large. Long story short- I'm thankful you're here.

You are always welcome to my blog(s). As long as you are an loyal and respectful person, I sincerely care about your involvement of visiting my blog and its posts. I love it when someone actually clicks on links and even supports any sort of material I post. That is what I would like to have from all of my visitors. Sometimes, other peoples' blogs and sites remind me of what I wish more people would do with my own material. Some blogs/websites get many more comments and posts than mine. I usually have a select few comment. The feeling is just surreal that I can get so many hits to John's Blog Space, yet have a small percentage actually get involved in some sort of way. I want to improve that ratio of loyal visitors if I can.

Loyalty, Not Spam!

Of course, as much as I want people to share their opinions and thoughts, I am also trying to weed out any would-be spammers. There are some people who will perform spam searches and somehow find my blog(s), then will post something with some suspicious link. I have taken multiple measures to ensure that my blog(s) don't get poisoned with spam. Even if a comment even SEEMS like spam or something posted from a suspicious search, I will block that comment and the one who made it. Don't make me feel suspicious. For example- there are people who'll put in a certain search term and find a certain blog post of mine. Any blog post of mine that continually gets consistent spam comments ultimately have comments for that post disabled. It's a disservice to both me and my readers/visitors.

Spam does NOT equal loyalty. Spammers just latch onto certain keywords and don't particularly care about sharing your content. They just come on and post a suspicious link while sounding completely human. I will NOT allow my blog to be poisoned with suspicious comments from suspicious visitors. For those of you who read my John's Corner on "Hobby vs. Profession," I touched up on SEO in regards to websites. I've read an article about how certain "firms" have hired people on the cheap to post an innocent comment to a blog post while also supplementing a suspicious link. It's just spam to try to poison a website and hurt its ranking online. Sad world, isn't it? ANYTHING for money.

So that is just a little extra blogging insight for you all.

Above all else, you are always welcome here on John's Blog Space and my other blogs. Don't ever think you don't mean anything to my work. You made the effort to come here and interact with my work. The least you can do is show your continued support of my work. That is all I ask of my respected and respectful readers. I love and respect all of you who care about and actually enjoy being here.

One last time...

You are always welcome here on John's Blog Space. Thank you so much for visiting. Please come back (and hopefully keep coming back) any time.
